Legislative Daily Update: Day 27 of 38

Brought to you by SDWF Camo-Coalition

Friday is crossover day, meaning that every bill needs to be out of the House of origin.

SCR 8 (Requesting federal natural resource agencies to refrain from designating wilderness areas in South Dakota without approval of the Legislature). Will be on House Floor tomorrow (Friday) SDWF opposes this and asks that you write all House Members and ask them to vote NO on SCR 8. There is only 13 parcels of land left in SD. That qualifies for the “wilderness designation” and we believe this Resolution is not needed. How to email the House members is at the bottom of this page.

http://sdlegislature.gov/Legislative_Session/Bills/Bill.aspx?Bill=SCR8&Session=2018

HB 1257 (allows abandon as a road closure in addition to other) was hog housed and we believe it will be a better bill with the Amendment. It allows a Co. to abandon a road verses vacating the road. It will allow them to abandon meaning no maintenance as opposed to vacate which does away with access on the road or section line.

SB 170 (Use of non-meandered water) was tabled this morning by the sponsor. This was the last chance of us getting any type of Legislation passed, towards equitable and fare non-meandered water law. HB 1140 (does not allow of closing access to non-meandered water larger than 40 ac.) is our last hope to have any sort of Legislation passed that will help save access to our non-meandered water for the public’s use.
