HB 1106 (preference points for 10 yo) passed House to Senate

HB 1140 (stops closing of access to non-meandered water) passed House 57 yeas to 9 nays.

HB 1219 (Use of night vision) is scheduled for hearing on Thursday in Senate Ag. Separate Action alert sent

HB 1246 ( is scheduled for hearing on Wed. They are still in Session.

HB 1257 (would add word abandonment to the law) is scheduled for hearing on Thursday

House Bills:

HB 1081 extend the effective date of certain provisions regarding the recreational use of nonmeandered water. SDWF is opposed, The Leg. needs to pass fair and equitable Legislation for water in SD.  Passed House to Senate Ag no Hearing Scheduled

HB 1106 authorize hunting preference points to be granted to persons age ten years or older This would allow 10-11 year olds to purchase preference points to use when they get old enough to get into the regular drawing for big game tags SDWF supports. Passed House to Senate

HB 1107 revise and repeal various provisions regarding the construction and maintenance of county and township highways and bridges. SDWF is monitoring Passed House to the Senate

HB 1140 revise certain provisions regarding access to public water. SDWF Supports, if passed would help stop the closing of access to water and public hunting areas in the state.  House Passed to full Senate

HB 1217 repeal a provision that prohibits hunting of mourning doves on certain property.

SDWF supports this Legislation. House passed, Senate Ag, Passed to full Senate. 

HB 1219 revise certain provisions regarding the use of night vision equipment in hunting Passed House to Senate Ag. 2-15-2018, 10 am Rm 412

HB 1246 revise certain provisions regarding restricting recreational use on inundated private property. This is a very bad bill, it would allow the landowner of a MEANDERED lake that has expanded out of its meandered boundary to close the public’s water. This would affect lakes like Bitter, Waubay there seems to be no end? House State Affairs, Wed. afternoon hearing 330 pm, RM 414

HB 1257 provide for the abandonment of certain highways by townships and counties SDWF is monitoring Scheduled for hearing on Thursday Local Govt. 10 am Rm 414

Senate Bills:

SB 24 extend the effective date of certain provisions regarding the recreational use of meandered water. SDWF does support the extension, we support passing equitable and fair water law. Passed Senate to House


SB 137 revise certain provisions regarding the minimum hunting age SDWF monitoring Senate Amended and passed to full House.


SB 170 direct the implementation of the requirements of certain provisions regarding non meandered watersNo Hearing Scheduled


SB 211 create a Legislative Water Management Committee. SDWFopposed



HB 1046 allow certain resident farmers or ranchers to receive a big game license during the Black Hills deer season. This is a GFP Bill, it would establish a landowner preference tag for landowners in the Black Hills. SDWF supports Passed House Passed Senate to Gov. Senate

HB 1047 revise certain provisions defining fur-bearing animals. GFP Bill it adds River Otter and Fisher to fur bearers list.  SDWF supports Passed House Passed Senate to Gov.

HB 1119 revise certain provisions regarding riparian buffer strips. This is a good bill if passed would allow County Commissioners to expand the riparian buffer strips legislation and where it is applicable and able to be used.  Passed House to Senate Ag. To Senate Consent passed now to Gov.


HB 1148 revise certain provisions regarding the eligibility to serve on the Game, Fish, and Parks Commission SDWF is monitoring Passed full House to the Senate Ag, Placed on consent and passed


HB 1295 revise certain provisions regarding the eligibility to serve on the Game, Fish and Parks Commission SDWF is opposed we would like to see it stay here it is 3 west river 5 east river based on SD population numbers Senate Ag passed to 41st day (Dead)

HJR 1005 Proposing and submitting to the voters at the next general election an amendment to the Constitution of the State of South Dakota, relating to fishing, hunting, and trappingNo Passed to 41st day (Dead)

SB 199 revise certain provisions regarding nonmeandered waters. SDWF supports the sportsmen/women’s compromise Passed Senate Ag failed Senate vote to calendar
